5 Key items for your closet in 2022

You are ready to meet the New Year refresh and excited and vibrant, right?

Everything you see on social media, TV, in magazines is saying, and TBH you know it too, you need to clean out your closet!

That’s all well and good, but where do you start?

  • there’s stuff that doesn’t fit anymore
  • stuff that’s not really your vibe anymore
  • your job has changed
  • you don’t want to show up the same as you did before
  • you are now in a hybrid role
  • new style trends may or may not be your thing

And so many other variables

So what should you keep in your closet that will make sense now?

Here are my tips

5 key items in for your closet

  1. A  Blazer-not necessarily black either. If you don’t need a black/formal blazer for work, think about one in a different colour, or in a plaid. Great to wear with jeans, over a white T or with a dress or skirt. So many possibilities. A third piece is a real outfit boost. Not sure what I’m talking about? I talk about creating powerful outfits in the DIY closet edit bundle.

I got this plaid blazer from the Gap last year, it’s sold out. I like this cropped one and this oversized style.

Here are a few more options

2. Knit cardigan-You may not want or need the formal structure of blazer for work anymore, but you still want to look polished for your video calls or just to throw on to complete a casual outfit.

A few options

3. Black dress– I don’t think I need to say much about a black dress. So much versatility. Such a worker in your closet. Invest in one you love, that works for your body shape. Dress up dress down, work, play, it’s a keeper

4. Matching sets- This can be a suit or a knit set. I just love the versatility and outfit options  of a matching. Wear each piece separately or together. If you ever see a set, and trying to decide whether to get both pieces, or just one, ALWAYS get the set. You won’t be disappointed. Love this set from Mango and this from Asos.

5. Comfy pants- These are important especially for hybrid work and work from home. You want to be comfy and also elevated. Not schlepping around in your sweats. Retailers have come a long way with great options in comfy pants. Look for fabrics that will move with you, like knits and those that have stretch like spandex or elastane. I love faux leather joggers, leather leggings and some tailored pants that have a a loose fit with great fabrics.

And there you have it!

Those are my picks for the must keeps or new additions to your closet.

They will give you tons of versatility and expand your wardrobe options.

Remember it’s not about the amount of clothes you have, but rather, it’s having the right clothes.

What would you add to this list?
