Nothing looks good on me!

As some of us, if not most of us have added a few more pounds and inches to our bodies, I hear this complaint more and more.

“Nothing looks good on me!”

Or, as women are  “dusting off” their wardrobe and getting back into the mindset of showing up and joining the outside world, this has become a new struggle.

Clothes that used to fit, or styles that worked two years ago, just don’t look or fit the same.

Just going up in size may not be the answer.

Understanding how to dress your (new) body shape may be the answer to this struggle.

As women our bodies change over time. We age, puberty, childbirth, disease, surgeries, hormones, all the things, affect our bodies and how they look n clothing.

Our main goal when we get dressed, is to look and feel great. We accomplish that usually by accentuating our assets, i..e the areas that we love, and not drawing additional attention to the areas that we aren’t as confident about.

I’m breaking down this outfit to share some tips on how to accentuate your assets every time you get dressed.

Wide leg pants

I such a fan of this style. Wide leg pants work well if you are heavier on the bottom half of your body. If you have wide hips and you want them to  look proportional to the rest of your body, wide leg pants are great. They are long and loose and give an elongated, long and lean look to your bottom half.

Add to that the fact that loose and baggy are very on trend and current at this time. The comfort look and feel is very now.

The pants I’m wearing are definite winners!

I love the side ankle slit. It draws the eye down and away from the hip area, so even better.

Here is a jean option, and this one. Here is a Plus size option.

V- neck top

This works well if you have a full or heavy bust. The V- neckline visually cuts into your chest area and opens up your neckline. This brings the attention up to your beautiful face.

Another  great feature of this top if you have a heavy chest is long sleeves. These sleeves are full and balloon at the wrist, so your attention is taken away from the bust area.

If the sleeve stops right inline with the bust, that creates a visual line and brings attention to the bust area.

So you decide where you want the attention.

The one I’m wearing is from Anthropologie but sold out. Here is a similar style.

Love this and this as well

Detail at the waist

If you’re more of a straight shape, the little detail at the waist gives you the illusion of some curves.

If you have a waist this top also works for you.

If you have a tummy you’re conscious of, I like a wrap style which will camouflage that area.

This top may be too short and with all the details in the middle, you could bring more attention to the area you are conscious of. I’d suggest a top that was longer, flowy with a similar wrap style.

One o f the usual “tips” Google or others will suggest, if there is an area you want to minimize is to “wear dark colours” in that area.

With a heavier bottom half, I “should” wear a dark colour here, but….

I say all the time, wear what you love. I love these off white pants and wanted to wear them, so out with the wind that “tip” went!

I chose a flattering silhouette, and then wore a light colour pants.

AND I  LOVED IT!

I encourage you to wear what you love that works with your body shape. You’ll look and feel so much better.

Has your body or lifestyle changed and you’re not quite sure how to shop and choose pieces that accentuate your assets the best?

I’d be happy to help.
