On trend vs. trendy… which one are you?

Every season we are alerted of the “new trends”,  and the latest “must have” item  for our wardrobes.

We are on the heels of Spring and this is no different.

But really who has the time or interest to keep up?  Well, I do  of course :),  but I don’t expect you to.

I am not trendy but I am definitely current and modern so let’s talk about that.

Let’s talk about being on trend and trendy.

Even though the words are very similar, they are really different, when we’re speaking about clothing.

Let’s start with trendy. When we say something is trendy, it means  it’s a”flash in the pan” type of item. NO staying power, short-lived.

People who are “trendy” tend to want to buy things as soon they hit the shops, or before.

They also buy whether or not the items will work with what they already own, or for their body. They don’t even consider if they really like the piece, and they spend a lot of money frequently buying stuff!

On the other hand, someone who’s on-trend, is someone who is current. They are aware of the latest styles, they incorporate new items into their wardrobe if they work for their life and personality.

They use “trend” items intentionally to inject a little fun into their outfit.

Their entire wardrobe doesn’t consist of trendy pieces.

A functional wardrobe that will give you lots of options, allows you to create outfits easily, and speaks to your personality. Its sprinkled with trend pieces.

Look at your wardrobe, it should be 80% classic pieces (for you) and 20% trend.

I’m the first person to say I don’t really follow trends. I wear what I love.

I want you to understand  however, that knowing which pieces to add to your wardrobe keeps you looking modern and current.

So what? Why is that important?

Well, when you show up looking dated people will assume you and your skills are also dated.

This is big consideration especially if you are climbing the corporate ladder or selling your services or business.

Your image needs to communicate who you are in the best light.
